TOOLS NEEDED:
Ultimate Terraining Map (3.0 for non-playable maps or 4.0 for playable maps)
World Editor or JNPG Editor
Basic Terraining Skills and a moment of your time.

THE BASICS
What your gonna wanna start with for this is to create a basic terrain of your forest. First off, make the aea you want to use for the forest use some sort of grass tileset. Do not worry about tile variation yet!

Now, somewhere in the middle of your forest you're going to want to create sort of a small line of trees, placed naturally and spaced casually apart. You can use any tree from UTM or a normal blizzard tree, but im going to use a variation of the custom models. As you can see from the picture, you want to make sort of a distorted circle shape, to start out.

Next, you're going to want to create sort of a narrow ditch in the middle of the distorted circle, making it look something like a strange squarish water

Now, to fix your squarish water, you want to select smooth and go around the edges until it begins to smooth out. You may need to widen the water so it doesn't go away.

So, we're going to focus on bringing this specific, small area to life. We'll start this with tile variation. Play around with the tileset until you find a good combination. Here's how mine turned out:

ADDING LIFE
Life can be instituted into the forest using a variety of tools the World Editor provides. We're going to start with doodads. Experiment with them - ands try to make it look natural. Grass doesn't grow everywhere in nature. It grows in large amounts of small, spaced clumps. Flowers on the other hand grow in large clumps that are space away from eachother. Don't spam any one thing. When your finished, it might or might not turn out to be something like this:

While we're talking about doodads, I'd also like to bring up lighting. Lighting can bring that extra power into your terrain art, but dont spam it. Use it wisely. Fog can act the same way. Here's a little something I did with my tools of light and fog:

The next thing a forest should have is animals. Scatter a few forest-native animals around your little area:

EXPANDING YOUR AREA
Now, expanding your area can be a relatively simple task now that you have created your basic center here. Simply expand out with trees adding in doodads as you go. I ran out of time to do this, but good luck!
